United for Syria
A coalition of humanitarian organisations have come together to send ambulances from the UK into Syria. Unity Convoy is a display of humanity in its purest form.
The project aims to give a lifeline to various hospitals in Syria. A key focus around unity of humanitarian organisation worldwide sends a strong message to the Syrian civilians, the doctors and humanitarians that they are not forgotten, they are seen, they are heard, and people do care.
Syria’s hospitals, medics and medical facilities have been repeatedly targeted since the country’s brutal civil war started in 2011. There have been at least 382 attacks on medical facilities since the conflict began and the vast majority have allegedly been carried out by Syria’s government, according to Physicians for Human Rights. (Physicians of Human Rights 2016)
The conflict has also sparked a huge increase in people who need medical care and a major shortage of essential drugs and equipment. According to the UN, more than 11.5 million Syrians need urgent healthcare. Unity Convoy aims to inspire humanitarian organisations to send 100 ambulances to Syria in April 2017.
Humanitarian organisations around the world are joining forces towards the same goal which is to fundraise for 100 ambulances. All 100 vehicles will be acquired in the UK and will be driven by volunteers across several countries in Europe before going into Syria. They ambulances will be handed over to hospitals and medical facilities & services in Syria.
The regional effort for Asia is led by Malaysia Life Line for Syria and joined by Humanity Heroes, MYCorps, Muslim Volunteer Malaysia, Tangisan Syria di Bumi Jordan, Majlis Belia Malaysia, One Moment for Them, Malaysian Humanitarian Aid and Relief, Global Peace Mission, Kind Necessities and Misi Medis Suriah (Indonesia).
The journey from UK to Syria will take around 7-10 days and we are expecting to depart to UK on the last week of April 2017 for the preparation. The ambulances is expected to arrive in Syria in the first week of May 2017. Malaysia is aiming for 10 ambulances. Humanity Heroes is partnering with MYCorps in getting 1 ambulance and we need your help in making this a reality.
